CONSTELLATIONS OF THE SOUTHERN SKY

Constellations are more than just the familiar Big Dipper of Ursa Major or Orion. In the southern sky, we find the ships of ancient heroes, fantastic birds, and mythical demigods – celestial figures invisible from our hemisphere.

Is it true that sailors in the Southern Hemisphere can’t use the North Star for navigation? Where can we find Centaurus, the wise mentor of heroes? Who were the Argonauts, and why is their ship depicted among the stars? And why does the Moon appear upside down in southern skies?

Let’s discover the stars we can never see from Ukraine, find out which constellations shine above Australia, Africa, and South America, and explore a whole new celestial map – a sky that always hides just beyond our horizon.
