Educational workshop "Learning ways to participate in the project "New Horizons of STEM Education" in the space of Planetarium Noosphere

16 February
Today, on February 16, the Planetarium Noosphere hosted an educational workshop "Learning Ways to Participate in the New Horizons of STEM Education Project".

During the workshop, labor and art teachers, together with Iryna Boyko, a consultant in the art and technology sectors of the Educational Trajectory Professional Development Center of the Dnipro City Council, learned the algorithms for performing and designing work in three project nominations:

  • Case of STEM activities in the classroom;
  • Virtual "highlights" of STEM technologies;
  • Dreams of Space Travel.
The project participants received methodological advice on developing an integrated lesson with elements of STEM education, which will allow them to involve science and art in the school curriculum.
Participants also practiced creating a video of a virtual tour or a fragment of a lesson using interactive exhibits in the Planetarium Noosphere exhibit area, which will help students visualize the knowledge they have gained.
In addition, the participants created models of scientific art objects that combine the implementation of engineering and design knowledge, technological and artistic skills.

It should be noted that Planetarium Noosphere, together with the municipal institution "Center for Professional Development "Educational Trajectory" of the Dnipro City Council and with the support of the Department of Humanitarian Policy of the Dnipro City Council, launched the city project "New Horizons of STEM Education".
The project aims to implement a program to introduce STEM education in educational institutions of Dnipro, actively use innovative teaching methods, form a holistic picture of the universe in students, and take a transdisciplinary approach to teaching natural, technological, and artistic disciplines.

The initiative will help to reveal the personal professional qualities of teachers, encourage them to improve themselves, and develop students' design and artistic abilities.

The project provides an opportunity to actualize the use of the subject "Technology" not only in the study of natural and mathematical disciplines, but also in the process of mastering the lessons of the educational field "Art".

The project participants are teachers of science, art, and technology subjects and students of general secondary education institutions in Dnipro in three age categories: junior group (10-13 years old); middle group (14-18 years old); and senior group (starting from 19 years old) - teachers. Contestants can participate in the project with their own works that were created either personally or as a group or team.

The results of the project will be summarized by a jury consisting of leading experts in the relevant educational fields and representatives of Planetarium Noosphere. The exhibition of teachers' and students' works will take place at the Planetarium Noosphere from April 11 to 17, 2023. The awarding ceremony of the participants with certificates and space gifts from Planetarium Noosphere will take place on April 18, 2023 in the Planetarium Noosphere exposition area.
